According to psychologists interviewed by the Daily Mail
the reasons go beyond surface-level attractions. This phenomenon
far from trivial
often stems from emotional needs
childhood wounds
or deep psychological mechanisms. Insights from Sam Vaknin
Catherine Nobile
Alexandra Solomon
and Susan Krauss Whitbourne reveal a rarely explored side of female psychology. When Emotional Security Drives Love. Many of these relationships center on a need for emotional security. Dr. Catherine Nobile
director of Nobile Psychology in New York
states
“From an evolutionary standpoint
women may seek partners who provide stability and resources—traits often associated with older
wealthier men.” For some women
such relationships offer safety and a path to a stable lifestyle
especially if they’ve experienced financial hardship or instability growing up. Psychologist Sam Vaknin offers a controversial take: “Some women feel entitled to a luxurious life without working for it. For them
it’s a form of independence driven by a narcissistic self-worth.” This suggests attraction can also relate to self-image and perceived entitlements. A Difficult Childhood Can Spark a Need for Maturity. Emotional history influences romantic choices significantly. Dr. Alexandra Solomon of Northwestern University notes
“A woman from an emotionally unstable home might seek someone as a rock—a safe
grounding force.” A childhood lacking affection or stability can shape one’s adult attachment style. Seeking both emotional and material security with an older man may be a way of addressing early deficits. Dr. Susan Krauss Whitbourne of the University of Massachusetts Amherst echoes this: “Women seeking a father figure’s security often lacked it in their own lives.” Behind these age-gap relationships is frequently a primal quest for protection
rooted in formative years. |
